When you’re hurrying through the airport to catch a flight, you may not be aware of how many people it takes to get you to your destination. If you stop to think about the vast number of positions available at an airport, curiosity can set in. What if there’s a job you might like to do at such an interesting location?
Baggage Handler
The baggage handlers are responsible for transporting your luggage from the carousels to the plane and back to the carousels at the destinations. They rely on the heavy-duty industrial casters on the bottoms of the luggage carts they use to move bags around the airport. The majority of the time, bags make it to the proper location, which is an impressive feat considering how many suitcases move through an airport each day.
Concessionaire
Those individuals working in the airport shops are called concessionaires. If you enjoy talking to people in a retail environment, this may be the place for you.
Aircraft Mechanic
For hands-on work, you can consider becoming an aircraft mechanic. These are the people behind the scenes who work in the hangars to maintain and repair the airplanes to keep them safe in the air.
Air Traffic Controller
Air traffic controllers have to stay alert and focused throughout their shift, keeping in contact with the pilots in their air space and directing them where to go to land or takeoff. It can be a highly satisfying job, but can also be high stress.
Flight Attendant
If you want to work on an airplane, you can consider becoming a flight attendant. This can be a grueling job, but it does allow you to travel if that’s what you’re interested in.
As you can see, there are plenty of jobs available at the airport. Continue your research to see what area you might like to work in.
